About the Event

This month we have invited Chow Shun Keung to share with us the development of his projects.

In the artist's mind, wood is a material of intimacy and life and thus most suitable for use as a medium to show his concern and exploration of the meaning of life. In artistic creation, Chow closely observes the details of what is happening around and tries to explore the essence of life from different perspectives. His works always convey a sense of humour and fondness. His inspirations come from a wide range of sources: longings for utopia, reactions to societal violence, the masculinity complex, personal contemplation, etc. Approached as a whole, his works form a dynamic and evocative discourse; exquisitely conveying the artist’s nuanced reflections upon and responses to life and experience.

Chow Shun Keung graduated from the Northcote College of Education in 1987, he started to study marble sculpture with Lai Yat-fong in 1994. He won the First runner –up in Sculpture in the Philippe Charriol Foundation Art Competition in 1995. Then he studied wood sculpture with Tong King-sum and his work was featured in the “Philippe Charriol Foundation Art Competition Exhibition” in 1997. In 2001 he received an Award from Hong Kong Museum of Art.
